Restoration of the backdrop for Labyrinth
|
In 2005, a major work was carried out by the Conservation and Restoration department, on the backdrop for the Labyrinth ballet, which is a tempera on canvas measuring 9 x 13 metres and dating from 1974.
The purpose of the intervention was to clean off the dust and dirt from the front and back surfaces of the work, for which the procedure involved detaching the cloth section by section and, as the work progressed, rolling it up into a polyethylene tube with a diameter of 80 cm specially prepared for the occasion. The tears at the edges of the canvas were also consolidated, and the securing ropes were also replaced, these tasks being entrusted to a sceneshifter.
