Restoration
The restoration tasks include not only the paintings but also a major collection of original drawings and of graphic work on paper, in addition to an extraordinary variety of artistic objects and montages of materials whose characteristics are as different as those of wood, metal, ceramics, plastics, works of taxidermy, fabric, fibreglass, etc.
This enormous diversity poses a constant challenge to the restorers and requires the participation of qualified personnel in various specialities. All the written and photographic documentation that is produced about the restoration process for each piece is fed into the works database and the occasion is put to good use to advance research into documentation about the work and analysis of the materials of which it is made. Over the last few years, the Conservation and Restoration Department has been carrying out a number of complete restoration processes on many artistic objects and installations at the Theatre-Museum that had deteriorated through the normal wear and tear with time but also due to the lack of a clear preventive conservation policy in the past.
