On 19 march the Gala-Salvador Dalí Foundation inaugurated Dalí by Halsman, this year’s temporary exhibition at the Castell Gala Dalí in Púbol, which will be on show until the 31st December 2011, when the castle-museum is closed to the public until the following March.

The opening ceremony was presented by Mr. Joan Pluma, General Director of Cultural Heritage of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Ramon Boixadós, Chairman of the Fundació Gala-Salvador Dalí, Antoni Pitxot, Director of the Dalí Theatre-Museum and Vice-Chairman of the Foundation, and Montse Aguer, Director of the Centre for Dalinian Studies. Philippe Halsman’s heirs, Irene Halsman and Steve Bello, also attended the opening.

The Fundació Gala-Salvador Dalí is pleased to announce that it has acquired the work by Salvador Dalí: Étude pour ‘Le miel est plus douce que la sang’, at the auction which took place at Christie’s London, on February, 9th, 2011 at 10pm, for a final price of   £4,073,250.  

The Dalí Theatre-Museum in Figueres has been the setting for the worldwide presentation of the Disney films Fantasia and Fantasia 2000 in Blu-ray, which will be available for the first time on 9 February 2011. Moreover, Destino has been screened; a film produced in year 2003 after the Salvador Dalí designs commissioned in 1946 by Walt Disney.

With the occasion of this worldwide presentation, the Dalí Foundation has organised a small format show at the Drawings Room, with materials owned by the Foundation that illustrate the intense collaboration between both genius for the execution of Destino. The exhibition will permanently screen this film and will also show 27 pieces: 1 oil painting, 1 watercolour, 15 preparatory drawings, –10 of which are unpublished–, and 9 photographs of Dalí in the creative process of this material, of the Disney couple in Portlligat in 1957, and the Dalí couple in Burbank (California). An educational leaflet has been published about the exhibition contents, in 4 languages.

The Dalí Theatre-Museum in Figueres celebrates this year too the Special Night Opening on 10 September from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. Last entrance is at 00:30 depending on attendance. It is a celebration in which museums and other cultural equipments open for free, the night before the national festival of Catalonia.

This year a new attraction can be admired, the painting The Figueres Fair that was acquired by the Foundation and presented to the media last 27 August.

The Fundació Gala-Salvador Dalí has presented its latest acquisition of work by the artist: a tempera painting on cardboard entitled The Figueres Fair. The work had already been seen at the Dalí Theatre-Museum, on temporary loan since 1992, and has now been acquired from its owner. The painting has just arrived from Paris, where it had been a main attraction of the Dreamlands exhibition held at the Centre Pompidou in the French capital.

It will be on display in the Fishmongers’ Room of the Theatre-Museum from Monday 30 August.

From 7 August to 9 January 2011, the High Museum of Art in Atlanta hosts what can be considered the first exhibition focusing on the late work by Dalí, the one produced in the final 40 years of his career, under the title Dalí. The late work.

Organized by the High Museum, it benefits from the collaboration of Fundació Gala-Salvador Dalí and the Dalí museum in Saint Petersburg (Florida).

La Fundació Gala-Salvador Dalí informed today that this year down to 21 July the Dalí museums have received a total of 665,745 visitors, which means a growth of 5.13% compared to the same period last year.

By museums:

Dalí Theatre-Museum: 461,603 visitors, a growth of 2.63%

Dalí•Jewels Gallery: 99,306 visitors, 14.39% more than last year.

Gala Dalí Castle in Púbol: 43,238 visitors, a 13.43% more.

Salvador Dalí House in Portlligat: 51,597 visitors, 5.29% more.
