News. The "la Caixa" Foundation and the Gala-Salvador Dalí Foundation are to organise an exhibition on Dalí and mass culture

11 April 2002

The President of the "la Caixa" Foundation, Josep Vilarasau i Salat, and the President of the Gala-Salvador Dalí Foundation, Ramon Boixadós i Malé, have signed a collaboration agreement to hold a temporary exhibition on Salvador Dalí and mass culture. The exhibition, which will be organised jointly by the two institutions and produced by the "la Caixa" Foundation, will be open to visitors at CaixaForum from January to May 2004, forming part of the programme of events planned by the Gala-Salvador Dalí Foundation for the year 2004 to commemorate the centenary of the Salvador Dalí's birth.

The exhibition explores Dalí's relationship with the world of mass culture. The new visual universe generated by the great technological and economic changes of the period held a great fascination for Dalí, who went further than his contemporaries and journeyed into territories that for many avant-garde artists were taboo. Dalí collaborated in independent films and with Hollywood, reflecting the new changes in his work in photography, fashion, publicity, design and publication. The exhibition will be divided into eight areas, displaying some 300 works: paintings, drawings, photographs, clippings, magazine covers, postcards, manuscripts and films and other objects of mass culture.
