News. The Peralada Group joins the Promotion Council of Dalí Year 2004

4th June 2003

The Peralada Group has joined the Promotion Council of Dalí Year 2004. The Council will be made up of a maximum of ten people or entities who will be collaborating with the event by providing resources or by funding the activities included in the official programme.

Signed by Artur Suqué, chairman of the Peralada Group, and Ramon Boixadós, chairman of the Fundació Gala-Salvador Dalí, the programme includes the provision that on the occasion of celebration of the Dalí centenary the international music festival that the Peralada Group has been organising each year since 1987 will be called ‘Festival Castell de Peralada, 2004 Any Dalí’ (Peralada Castle Festival, Dalí Year 2004). Under this collaboration agreement, the Festival undertakes to include in its scheduling a number of “Dalinian” shows never before staged in Spain.

Although the festival programme for 2004 is still at the planning stage, staging of the Spanish dance work El Sombrero de Tres Picos (The Three-Cornered Hat) has already been confirmed, with music by Manuel de Falla, as well as El Café de Chinitas. This second work includes the thirteen Canciones populares españolas, harmonised by Federico García Lorca. There are also plans to include a ballet performance made up of three pieces: Labyrinth, with music from Franz Schubert’s Seventh Symphony, Bacanal, to music by Richard Wagner, and Mad Tristan, also by Wagner (with excerpts from his opera Tristan und Isolde). There will also be a performance of the opera Salomé by Richard Strauss. Salvador Dalí had made costume and/or set designs for all these works.
