Observations

This work is entitled "Ensemble masochiste" for we believe it corresponds to the painting Dalí presented at the exhibition held at the Pierre Colle Gallery, Paris, from the 3rd to the 15th of June, 1931, number 22. This assumption can be confirmed because the Fundació Gala-Salvador Dalí archives have a period photograph containing a hand-written note by the painter that reads "ensemble masochiste". To complement the provenance section and according to our resources, this painting has belonged to the followings private collectors and galleries: Comte Alain de Léché, Paris; Luciano Pistoi, Turin; Perls Gallery, New York; Galleria Internazionale, Milan; Galleria Gissi, Turin.
