Observations

According to the photograph provided by Corbis (image 2), the paintings"Portrait of Gala with Lobster" (cat. no. 330) and "Automatic Beginning of a Portrait of Gala" (cat. no. 309) were both part of a larger plywood panel. We guess Dalí exhibited the painting in their original form at the show held at the Pierre Colle Gallery in Paris from June 19th to 29th, 1933 (cat. no. 7) with the title "Début automatique des portraits de Gala" ("Automatic Beginning of the Portraits of Gala").
