It will take place until January 2007 at the Cervantes Institute\u00a0Auditorium in 211-215 East 49th Street, New York, NY 10017.<\/div>\n<div>This exhibition offers an extraordinary opportunity to examine\u2014at close range\u2014one of the many facets of the work of Salvador Dal\u00ed, who is one of the best known, admired, and controversial figures of the 20<sup>th<\/sup> century. The 128 drawings being presented are the originals used by Dal\u00ed to illustrate his autobiography, <em>The Secret Life of Salvador Dal\u00ed, <\/em>published by Dial Press in New York in 1942;<em> <\/em>these<em> <\/em>are now in the Foundation\u2019s collections. They had never been seen together before outside the Dal\u00ed Theatre-Museum in Figueres, from July 2004, when they were acquired by the Dal\u00ed Foundation.<\/div>\n<div>Considered by critics to represent Dal\u00ed\u2019s best writing, the book is an account full of truths, half-truths, and \u201cfalsehoods\u201d. The events, situations, and concepts described or narrated in <em>The<\/em> <em>Secret Life<\/em> are brilliantly reinforced\u2014and sometimes even exemplified\u2014by the drawings on display at the Cervantes Institute, symbolizing a powerful creative symbiosis between Dal\u00ed the artist and Dal\u00ed the man of letters.\u00a0 Most of the drawings are executed in India ink on paper; some present both the front and the reverse, and occasionally Dal\u00ed manipulates printed images to create new ones. Some include a title or instructions, usually in English, or penciled notes, normally intended for the publisher.
