La red\u00e9couverte des grands ma\u00eetres de l\u2019histoire de l\u2019art \u2014 en particulier de la Renaissance (Rapha\u00ebl et Michel-Ange) et du Baroque (Vel\u00e1zquez et Vermeer) \u2014 \u00e0 certains moments de sa carri\u00e8re, constitue l\u2019une de ses marques distinctives. J&rsquo;y parviendrai !\u00a0\u00bb<\/strong><\/em><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">Salvador Dal\u00ed<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"is-style-entradeta\">Il s\u2019agit d\u2019un extrait de la d\u00e9dicace par laquelle Dal\u00ed signe ses <em>50 secrets magiques pour peindre<\/em>, l\u2019un de ses principaux ouvrages, publi\u00e9 en 1948 sous la forme d\u2019un trait\u00e9 de peinture. C\u2019est une d\u00e9claration explicite, qui permet de comprendre la conscience que l\u2019artiste a de sa propre contribution \u00e0 l\u2019art et \u00e0 la peinture du XXe si\u00e8cle. Il s\u2019agit de paysages de l\u2019environnement imm\u00e9diat de Figueres, sa ville natale, qu\u2019il aurait commenc\u00e9s \u00e0 peindre d\u00e8s l\u2019\u00e2ge de six ans. Il est tr\u00e8s probable que son premier contact avec le monde de l\u2019art et de la peinture se soit fait \u00e0 travers les <em>Gowan\u2019s Art Books<\/em>, des monographies reproduisant les \u0153uvres des grands ma\u00eetres de l\u2019histoire de l\u2019art. Vermeer, Ingres, De Hooch ou encore Boucher figurent parmi les volumes qui sont encore conserv\u00e9s dans sa biblioth\u00e8que personnelle. L\u2019un des premiers courants picturaux \u00e0 marquer profond\u00e9ment le jeune peintre est l\u2019impressionnisme, qu\u2019il d\u00e9couvre gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 l\u2019\u0153uvre de Ramon Pichot, artiste et membre d\u2019une famille \u00e9troitement li\u00e9e aux Dal\u00ed. L\u2019influence de l\u2019impressionnisme devient perceptible \u00e0 partir de 1916 et se manifeste, jusqu\u2019au d\u00e9but des ann\u00e9es 1920, dans des natures mortes ainsi que dans des paysages pr\u00e9sente pour la premi\u00e8re fois ses peintures au public en 1919, lors d\u2019une exposition organis\u00e9e \u00e0 la Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 des Concerts du Th\u00e9\u00e2tre Municipal de Figueres, futur Th\u00e9\u00e2tre-Mus\u00e9e Dal\u00ed. La critique de l\u2019\u00e9poque salue d\u00e9j\u00e0 l\u2019\u0153uvre de ce jeune artiste : \u00ab c\u2019est une \u0153uvre puissante, aux couleurs vives, au dessin ample et vibrant, \u00e0 la sensibilit\u00e9 intense, qui surprend par la r\u00e9duction des valeurs \u00e0 leur plus grande simplicit\u00e9 \u00bb. Vers 1920, il commence \u00e0 peindre ses premiers autoportraits. En 1922, il est admis \u00e0 la Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando de Madrid, o\u00f9 il suit une formation sp\u00e9cialis\u00e9e, apr\u00e8s avoir re\u00e7u des cours de dessin du professeur Juan N\u00fa\u00f1ez \u00e0 Figueres. \u00c0 cette \u00e9poque, Dal\u00ed admire et explore presque tous les \u00ab -ismes \u00bb des avant-gardes picturales : le cubisme, le dada\u00efsme, le fauvisme, le purisme, le vibrationnisme, ainsi que la peinture m\u00e9taphysique italienne. Sans aucun doute, l\u2019un de ses premiers grands r\u00e9f\u00e9rents est le cubisme, et notamment Pablo Picasso, qu\u2019il rencontre en personne lors de son premier voyage \u00e0 Paris en 1926.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Apr\u00e8s cette p\u00e9riode de formation, vers 1927, Dal\u00ed commence \u00e0 exp\u00e9rimenter avec un langage pictural propre. C\u2019est \u00e0 ce moment-l\u00e0 qu\u2019il anticipe son esth\u00e9tique surr\u00e9aliste personnelle, en d\u00e9veloppant une iconographie tr\u00e8s singuli\u00e8re caract\u00e9ris\u00e9e par des corps d\u00e9membr\u00e9s et des \u00e9l\u00e9ments en d\u00e9composition, comme on peut le voir dans des peintures telles que <em>Appareil et main<\/em> (P195) et <em>Le miel est plus doux que le sang<\/em> (P194). Les fondements th\u00e9oriques de cette peinture se trouvent dans son texte <em>Saint S\u00e9bastien<\/em>. \u00c0 cette \u00e9poque, Dal\u00ed introduit \u00e9galement la technique mixte dans une s\u00e9rie d\u2019huiles qui, \u00e0 un certain moment de l\u2019ann\u00e9e 1928, flirtent m\u00eame avec l\u2019abstraction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>L\u2019une des grandes contributions de Dal\u00ed \u00e0 l\u2019histoire de la peinture r\u00e9side dans son \u0153uvre inscrite dans le surr\u00e9alisme. Son entr\u00e9e dans le groupe des surr\u00e9alistes parisiens a lieu vers 1929 et co\u00efncide avec sa rencontre avec Gala \u00e0 Cadaqu\u00e9s. Il s\u2019agit d\u2019un v\u00e9ritable tournant, \u00e0 partir duquel Dal\u00ed se consacre au d\u00e9veloppement de son style le plus personnel et \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9laboration de sa m\u00e9thode parano\u00efaque-critique, qu\u2019il annonce dans les quatre essais publi\u00e9s dans <em>La Femme visible<\/em> en 1930. Des peintures telles que <em>La M\u00e9moire de la femme-enfant<\/em> (1929, P236), <em>La Persistance de la m\u00e9moire<\/em> (1931, P265) ou <em>Le Spectre du sex-appeal<\/em> (vers 1934, P338) comptent parmi les chefs-d\u2019\u0153uvre de cette p\u00e9riode. On y trouve \u00e9galement ses c\u00e9l\u00e8bres images doubles, par lesquelles il explore les relations entre le conscient et l\u2019inconscient, entre r\u00e9alit\u00e9 et imagination. Vers 1938, la palette vive du surr\u00e9alisme s\u2019att\u00e9nue et ses \u0153uvres pr\u00e9sentent des paysages d\u00e9sol\u00e9s, peupl\u00e9s de nouveaux \u00e9l\u00e9ments symboliques qui r\u00e9v\u00e8lent une inqui\u00e9tude croissante face \u00e0 la situation politique et sociale en Europe. Dans le catalogue de l\u2019exposition pr\u00e9sent\u00e9e \u00e0 la Julien Levy Gallery de New York en 1941, Dal\u00ed se proclame d\u00e9fenseur de la Renaissance et de la restitution du nombre d\u2019or. L\u2019artiste reconna\u00eetra \u00e0 plusieurs reprises l\u2019influence d\u00e9cisive de Gala dans cette conversion. Cette inflexion s\u2019op\u00e8re progressivement dans sa peinture, sans qu\u2019il y ait pour autant une rupture explicite avec le surr\u00e9alisme. Dans un premier temps, il introduit de discr\u00e8tes \u00e9vocations de la culture classique \u2014 chevaliers, centaures marsupiaux ou architectures d\u2019ordre classique. \u00c0 partir de 1945, avec des \u0153uvres telles que <em>Galarina<\/em> (P597) ou <em>Ma femme, nue, regardant son propre corps devenir escalier, trois vert\u00e8bres d\u2019une colonne, ciel et architecture<\/em> (P598), sa peinture devient clairement un hommage \u00e0 la tradition classique. Cette transformation culmine vers 1948 avec sa c\u00e9l\u00e8bre <em>L\u00e9da atomique<\/em> (P642) et la publication de son trait\u00e9 de peinture <em>50 secrets magiques pour peindre<\/em>. Dans cet ouvrage, il d\u00e9clare admirer tout particuli\u00e8rement Vermeer, Rapha\u00ebl, L\u00e9onard de Vinci, Vel\u00e1zquez et Picasso, des artistes dont l\u2019influence est manifeste dans son \u0153uvre. \u00c0 une \u00e9poque o\u00f9 l\u2019expressionnisme abstrait domine la sc\u00e8ne artistique am\u00e9ricaine et europ\u00e9enne, Dal\u00ed entend se poser en \u00ab Sauveur \u00bb de la peinture moderne, en r\u00e9affirmant la tradition classique et la peinture \u00e0 l\u2019huile dans la lign\u00e9e des fr\u00e8res Van Eyck et de Vermeer. Durant cette p\u00e9riode, il se consacre \u00e9galement \u00e0 la r\u00e9alisation de portraits pour la haute soci\u00e9t\u00e9 am\u00e9ricaine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>S\u00fbr de son triomphe, Dal\u00ed oriente sa peinture des ann\u00e9es 1950 sous le signe du classicisme, de la science et de la physique nucl\u00e9aire, inaugurant ce que l\u2019on appelle sa p\u00e9riode mystique nucl\u00e9aire. Dans son <em>Manifeste mystique<\/em>, publi\u00e9 en 1951, il explique l\u2019apparition de la th\u00e9matique religieuse dans son \u0153uvre, son regard renouvel\u00e9 sur la Renaissance italienne et son d\u00e9sir de devenir un artiste classique en int\u00e9grant les connaissances scientifiques de son \u00e9poque. Progressivement, il introduit des \u00e9l\u00e9ments religieux tels que la Vierge \u00e0 l\u2019Enfant ou la Crucifixion, dans des chefs-d\u2019\u0153uvre comme <em>La Madone de Portlligat<\/em> (premi\u00e8re version, 1949, P643) et <em>Le Christ<\/em> (1951, P667).
