Observations
According to the bibliography of the time, this work is known as the St. Peter's Basilica. However, we have added the title Explosion of Mystical Faith in the Midst of a Cathedral, which is how we identify it, on the basis of the testimony of Antoni Pitxot, Director of the Dalí Theatre-Museum until 2015. On the evidence of several graphic documents, Dalí started working on this painting in 1959. For almost fifteen years the canvas remained in his studio in the house at Portlligat in different states of execution until it was first exhibited in the Dalí Theatre-Museu in 1974, and the work is accordingly dated 1959-74.
