The photographic collection of the Centre for Dalinian Studies contains more than 15,000 images spanning all periods of Salvador Dalí’s life. Some of the notable photographers who collaborated with him and whose work is part of the collection include Man Ray, Brassaï, Cecil Beaton, Eric Schaal, George Platt Lynes, Horst P. Horst, and Philippe Halsman, to name just a few.
Among the Foundation’s acquisitions, two collections of great graphic and documentary richness stand out, which integrate and complement the photographic archive: the Meli collection and the Eric Schaal collection.
The Meli collection (Melitó Casals), a local photographer and collaborator of Dalí from the 1950s onward, consists of a large collection of period images and a significant number of negatives and contact prints (around 8,000). The Eric Schaal collection, acquired by the Foundation in 2005, comprises 218 negatives, 68 vintage prints, and 43 slides documenting a fruitful professional relationship between the two artists from 1937 to 1942.
The Gala Salvador Dalí Foundation manages the rights to these collections, as well as the rights to the photographs of Dalí taken by the photographers Maspons, Català-Roca, and Xavier Miserachs.
