The Dalí Theatre-Museum: A living organism

I do not think that a museum is a storehouse or a cemetery, in which the great works of art are there only to satisfy the curiosity of the Sunday strollers. On the contrary, a museum is a living organism that grows and breathes and acts; a living organism that can die, too, if its vital purpose is not fulfilled.

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the inauguration of the Dalí Theatre-Museum, we present a short chronology with the key moments of the construction of this unique building, an icon of Dalí’s art and of the city of Figueres. The aim is at once to highlight Dalí’s constant involvement in the decision-making and the construction process of his museum and to present the invaluable documentary testimony of his friend and collaborator, the photographer Melitó Casals (Meli).

In this museum, one will find not only the majority of my work, but also the entirety of my genius.
