The Visit
Delve into the most private side of the Gala-Dalí couple at the Gothic castle in Púbol, where time seems to stand still in a setting especially designed to be a place for the artist’s muse to retreat and rest.
Discover the figure of Gala through her everyday life at her private refuge in the castle in Púbol, a melancholy place that blends austerity, sobriety and mystery with places of great beauty. Converted into a mausoleum upon Gala’s death, it was also Salvador Dalí’s last studio, making it an essential place to understand the artist’s innermost dimension and his relationship with his muse.

About Gala Dalí Castle
More Information
The Gala Dalí Castle
The Gala Dalí Castle in Púbol, open to the public since 1996, allows visitors to discover a mediaeval building where Salvador Dalí channelled his boundless creativity with just one person in mind – Gala – and one purpose – to create a suitable place for his wife to rest and retreat. The passage of time would shape this place, which, between 1982 and 1984, became both Salvador Dalí’s last studio and his muse’s mausoleum.
Route and visitable areas
Although the earliest mentions of the castle date back to the 11th century, the basic structure of today’s building – a three-storey construction arranged around a tall and narrow courtyard – can be traced to the period of maximum splendour of the barony of Púbol: the second half of the 14th century and early 15th century. The visit through the building’s interior is self-guided and one-way, from Room 1 to Room 10, where visitors can explore the rooms on the first floor of the castle where Gala and Salvador Dalí lived. The attic (Room 7) is also home to a temporary exhibition space.
The outdoor areas of the Gala Dalí Castle consist of the courtyard (Room 11), the garage (Room 13) and the gardens and swimming pool (Rooms 14 and 15). Gala’s crypt (Room 12) is located inside the castle, in the former tithe room.

Guide services
The Gala Dalí Castle regularly offers visitors activities that allow them to delve deeper into the private world that Salvador Dalí created for his muse and partner in Púbol.
The introduction to the visit consists of a brief overview of the building’s history, Gala’s life and the Dalís’ arrival in Púbol, whilst also explaining Salvador Dalí’s main interventions in each area. It lasts about 20 minutes.
The guided tour takes visitors on a journey through the castle’s history and Gala’s life based on the rooms that Salvador Dalí decorated and created for his partner, as well as the artist’s final studio, where he worked from 1982 to 1984. It lasts around 75 minutes and must be booked in advance.
Both activities are carried out by Gala Salvador Dalí Foundation staff. The available dates, times and languages for the two activities vary depending on the time of year.
Management reserves the right to suspend or modify guided tours or introductions should the museum’s organizational needs so require.
