The Conservation and Restoration Department is responsible for monitoring the conservation, storage and reserves area for the documentary and bibliographical collections held by the Gala-Salvador Dalí Foundation. These range from numerous and varied documents, photographs, books, publications, etc., from Salvador Dalí’s personal library and archive to new period acquisitions and donations that enrich our collection.

Another of the department’s tasks is to inspect these types of objects before any exhibition loan. To this end, before they go out on loan, the department prepares a condition report and, in many case, carries out conservation and restoration interventions, as in the case of one of the Vogue magazines with a cover design by Salvador Dalí loaned out for the exhibition Dalí and Magazines. The treatment consisted of dry cleaning, repairing tears and missing backing material, chromatic reintegration and generally flattening the piece.
