The Fashion Archive

Nomadism and change define Gala’s way of approaching life and fashion, a woman capable of shedding her skin and reinventing herself with each geographical context that welcomes her, with every romantic relationship and with every social or artistic event she takes part in.

Gala-Salvador Dalí

From the beginning of their relationship, Gala dedicated her life to making Salvador Dalí’s career shine. That was how she became a key figure in the joint Gala-Salvador Dalí project. A creative and vital alliance that involved them both, and which also encompassed the spaces they imagined, built and inhabited.

The Visible Woman

Beyond inspiring some of the great authors of the 20th century, Gala becomes, in a way, the author and main character of her own story from a very young age, exercising firm control over her narrative and, by extension, over her public image. Far from letting stereotypes constrain her, she uses them to her own advantage. They become a catalyst, a powerful tool that allows her to think about and reinvent herself through the eyes of others.

Gala’s Origins and Education

Elena Diakonova, better known as Gala, grew up in Russia in a cultured environment that nurtured her love of reading and the arts. Brilliant and intuitive, she soon realised that her true talent was not writing, but recognising, fostering and sustaining the genius of the men she loved. Love, art and determination were the pillars upon which she would forge her destiny.
