For many, reality is simply what the eyes see during the day; for Mircea Cărtărescu, reality extends from pure realism to the most surreal forms of dreamlike imagination. With his own intimate, fascinating and overflowing literary universe, the Bucharest writer draws on himself, on the material that lies beneath his cranial vault —the dome where dreams dwell—, and projects his vision as an image in every work: from poetry collections to short stories and novels, and above all in his diaries —the cartography of his mind. Just as, in Salvador Dalí, every work of art is Salvador Dalí, in Mircea Cărtărescu, every book is Mircea Cărtărescu. Disguised as an alter ego. During this evening, the author will talk about his creative process, the role of painting in his work, Salvador Dalí and his influence.

Mircea Cǎrtǎrescu (Bucharest, 1956). A poet above all, he has also published prose, diaries, essays and literary criticism. He is Professor Emeritus at the University of Bucharest. His work, translated into around thirty languages, including Catalan, has been acclaimed by readers around the world and by literary critics, and has received major Romanian awards as well as some of the most prestigious international prizes.
