A work of great chromatism that portrays the fairs of Figueres, which are held at the beginning of May, around the 3rd, the festival of the Holy Cross. We should highlight the gathering of people befitting the days of a fair: the bullfighter returning to the square in a carriage; the footballer, still in his coat, who is going to or coming from the game; the circus characters, the easels, the giants, in the background, and the diverse mass of people. In the lower right-hand corner the face of a character appears who, according to Dalí, came to the fairs from the neighbouring country. In "A diary: 1919-1920 My impressions and intimate memories", Dalí gives beautiful descriptions of the fair days: “It has an exquisitely Hellenic flavour about it”. He writes of “illuminated and lively” days, and about the atmosphere, so well reflected in this painting.
