The importance of the Centre for Dalinian Studies’ documentary collection has made the institution a leading centre for the study of and research on Salvador Dalí. The collection encompasses a wide variety of document types, which offer insight into the artist’s thought and oeuvre. The two main sections are the documentary archive and the photographic archive.  It also has a library of more than 10,000 volumes, as well as a newspaper and periodicals archive with more than 68,000 titles related to Salvador Dalí. The collection is available for consultation by anyone studying or researching the artist’s life and work, as well as other aspects especially related to surrealism.

The Centre for Dalinian Studies also conceives of and oversees research projects on the artist. One of the most important is the catalogues raisonnés of Salvador Dalí’s work, which were launched in 2004 to celebrate the centenary of the artist’s birth. These catalogues raisonnés are intended to gather and share, through their online publication, accurate and rigorous information about the works from his oeuvre. To date, the Catalogue Raisonné of Paintings has been completed, and work continues on those of Dalí’s sculptures and graphic work.

Featured publications

To disseminate the results of the research it conducts on its own and in collaboration with other institutions, the Foundation has published and presented numerous publications in different languages that raise awareness of Dalís work in all its many forms. These include catalogues raisonnés of his work, monographs, exhibition catalogues, museum guides and specialized articles that share a common denominator: Salvador Dalí and Gala.

The Foundation has also published the volume ‘Obra literària completa de Salvador Dalí’ (The Complete Literary Oeuvre of Salvador Dalí), the most comprehensive collection of all his writings, which offer insight into the artist’s thought and creative output.

Authentication and Cataloguing Committee (CAC)

The Authentication and Cataloguing Committee (CAC from the Catalan), attached to the Centre for Dalinian Studies (CED from the Catalan), is the Gala-Salvador Dalí Foundation body responsible for authenticating and cataloguing works attributed to Salvador Dalí, with the ultimate aims of promoting, protecting and defending Dalí’s oeuvre. To this end, it examines and certifies unique works – oils, watercolours and drawings – to authenticate Salvador Dalí’s authorship.
