The Dalí Theatre-Museum presented the new temporary exhibition entitled Transgressing Venus. Dalí is classic, Surrealist and Pop Art! The event was led by Montse Aguer, director of the Dalí Museums, and Laura Bartolomé, curator of the exhibition and of the Dalí Foundation.

One of the interesting aspects in this exhibition is the way the sculpture Venus de Milo with Drawers is shown. This work of art belongs to the Art Institute of Chicago's permanent collection. This institution has lent it to the Dalí Foundation as a digital loan. In order to present it together with the Dalí Foundation's Venus, a hologram has been produced and is shown thanks to a transparent LG OLED screen. This technical solution aims at paying tribute to the holograms Dalí produced in the seventies in collaboration with the Nobel Prize in Physics Dennis Gabor. Apart from the 2 sculptures on show, one physical and one digital, the exhibition includes a painting, 3 drawings, 1 piece of workshop material, 15 photographs, 3 leaflets, 2 magazines, 2 books and a fragment of the film entitled Autoportrait mou.

Reopening of the Dalí Theatre-Museum with an exhibition on Surrealism

The Dalí Theatre-Museum reopens its doors today after a 4-month-closure due to the pandemic. It does so with the new temporary exhibition Dalí: I am Surrealism!" Landscapes Outside of Time, which brings together twelve works from the Surrealist period for the first time. The Fundació Gala-Salvador Dalí presented them during a press conference with Montse Aguer, Director of the Dalí Museums and Curator of this exhibit, together with Carme Ruiz, Chief Curator of the Foundation and Deputy Curator of the show.

There are eleven oil paintings dating from year 1926 until 1937, as well as Poetry of America (1943) which shows how the Surrealist features are still present in Dalí's later work.

They are paintings meticulously executed on canvas, cardboard and wood that make up a good example of what Salvador Dalí's contribution to the Surrealist movement was. Because of their relevance they have been requested in international exhibitions such as Russia, Japan or Australia and that is why they have never coincided in the same place.

Gala/Dalí/Dior. Of art and fashion, the 2020 exhibition

With Gala/Dalí/Dior: Of Art and Fashion the Dalí Foundation begins a new exhibition programme focused on Dalí's fascinating relationship throughout his life with the world of design and fashion. This new policy could only be carried out at Gala's Castle in Púbol. This year's project explores parallelisms between two creators, Dior and Dalí, -but also Gala as a necessary collaborator-, two creators who epitomise the 20th century and who are characterised by an attitude to art that manages to combine technical precision, creative obsession, a desire to go beyond and a sense of mise-en-scène. Art and fashion intertwine to take visitors into this shared imaginary through a painstaking selection of the artist's work, Maison Dior's designs and documentary materials from the Dalí Foundation and Christian Dior Couture collections, two institutions which have begun a promising collaboration. Among the key pieces on show, three models from Maison Dior which belonged to Gala are to be seen, two of which have never been exhibited in Púbol.

The exhibition is to be seen from 14th March 2020 until 6th January 2021 at Gala’s Castle in Púbol.
