Observations

According to the bibliography consulted, this work is the original of the image used on posters for the syphilis prevention campaign organized by the U.S. Office of War Information in Washington DC during World War II. This is not definitively demonstrated by research to date, as there is another work (image 2) on the same theme, which was exhibited at the Wildenstein Galleries in New York in November 1944 (For more information, see "Dalí Paints the Lily", Time, Chicago & New York City, 6 November 1944).
