Preservation - Preventive conservation

Dalí's legacy in the museums of the Foundation is characterised by its great singularity, as seen in the profusion of installations created using a wide range of techniques and materials in the permanent collection, the conservation of which represents an exceptional challenge for conservators and restorers. Furthermore, the unusual nature of the architectural and museum spaces - the former theatre in Figueres and the reduced space of the fishermen's houses in Portlligat- requires the development of environmental control and preventive conservation solutions adapted to each specific case.

Preventive conservation comprises a series of measures and tasks aimed at minimising alterations in the works caused by materials ageing over time, or due to external factors such as handling, in order to avoid future deterioration and the need for restoration. The restorers' work is focused on comprehensive prevention programmes that include defining and monitoring secure systems and materials for the exhibition, storage, handling and transport of the works, as well as their maintenance.
