string(686) "Cette gravure témoigne de la complicité naissante entre Salvador Dalí et le poète anglais Edward James. Les deux hommes se sont rencontrés à l’été 1935 à Mas Juny, la demeure estivale du peintre catalan de renommée internationale José María Sert i Badia (1874-1945), située à Palamós, sur la Costa Brava.
La dédicace « À Edward James » et la composition — mêlant des motifs inspirés des Chants de Maldoror et du paysage de la côte catalane — suggèrent que cette estampe a été réalisée au tout début de leur relation, avant qu’elle ne se transforme en une profonde amitié et qu’Edward James ne devienne l’un des mécènes de Dalí [ver OG 020].
