BUÑUEL 125: SUITE PER A UN CHIEN ANDALOU

On Friday 6 June at 9 p.m., the Dalí Theatre-Museum will host a performance combining urban music and poetry to commemorate the 125th anniversary of the birth of Luis Buñuel. In this way, the Dalí Foundation joins the celebrations marking the 125th anniversary of the filmmaker's birth (Calanda, 1900 - Mexico City, 1983).

Coinciding with the exact date of the premiere of Un chien andalou in Paris in 1929 - a key surrealist work born of the collaboration between Buñuel and Dalí - the venue will present Suite for an Andalusian Dog, a multidisciplinary show by the Basilio Martí Trio, who will perform original live music to accompany the film screening.

The piece, which was successfully performed in Calanda as part of the Buñuel 2.0 series, offers a contemporary perspective on the silent film classic through a soundtrack that blends jazz, electronic, and urban music. It creates a dialogue between avant-garde cinema and today's artistic expressions.

The performance will also feature actor Carlos Urrutia, who will recite a selection of poems by Buñuel written between 1927 and 1929 at the Residencia de Estudiantes and published under the title El perro andaluz. This poetic collection, with a strong surrealist character and little known to the general public, has recently been revealed as a direct conceptual influence on the film's screenplay, as highlighted by Jordi Xifra, director of the Buñuel Centre in Calanda.
